that the brilliance of joseph gordon-levitt has been pretty much ignored so far. nix and i watched mysterious skin last night (i had seen it with jack in the theatre when it opened--though we missed the beginning because i was unforgivably late). my outrage that he (joseph gordon levitt, not jack) was not nominated for an academy award came rushing back.
this year he was in the amazing brick, which was fantastic.
anyway, go see these movies. tell your friends. give this man the reputation he deserves.

I just realized something odd. He plays a prostitute in need of rescue in Mysterious Skin, and his character in Brick is trying to rescue someone in similarly dubious sexual circumstances.
what i think is more interesting is that he and heath ledger were the romantic leads in 10 things i hate about you (the best cheesy teen movie since molly ringwald and ally sheedy stopped making cheesy teen movies), and both had the performance of their careers playing gay men
