thursday-things that i need
it's not that it's high--just higher than it's normal perfect state (my cholesterol--also perfect). i think it may have been the person taking my blood pressure (the last time i had a physical, they said that i was an inch shorter than i am, so there is a history of people misreading instruments here)(i'm back to my normal height, so last year's fear of shrinking was for naught). in the meantime, i'm giving up fast food for three months until they re-test it, just to be safe.

tuesday-things that displease me
- that i have been letting other people get to me. normally i am an illegitimus non carborundum type of person, but recently i seem to have been letting the actions, behaviors and decisions of others affect my mood, my sleep and my work. this must stop.
- also that the days are getting shorter. i hate fall.

monday-things that please me
- sleeping in
- nix, whose birthday it is today
- cream cheese icing, which was on nix's birthday cake--you have to love any recipe where the ingredients are: 1 stick of butter, 1 box of cream cheese, 1 box of confectioners sugar. 2 tsp of vanilla

thursday-things that i need
- better organizational skills
- better time management skills
i seem to have both of these things when i am in school, however, taking the summer off seems to have ruined me. i have nine things waiting to go to the post office; i have missed several birthdays; i have not done any of the research that i said i was going to when i decided to take the summer off; my house is a disaster.
here is a statue of Kali, for no reason other than it reminds me of what one of my mentors told me about Oya - you can't ask her to help you clean your house, because she'll destroy your house, and let you rebuild it.

wednesday-things that are orange
friends of mine in the great northwest want to open a restaurant that serves only orange food (come to think of it, that's probably why "things that are orange" came to me as a category on that fateful train ride when nix convinced me to do this)(maybe they'll let me help decorate when it opens)
ps-happy anniversary nix. who knows why you married a wreck like me, but i'm glad you did...

tuesday-things that displease me
everything the king touched turned to gold. everything these guys seem to touch is suddenly rusted through and needs to be replaced for 700 dollars, even though they just replaced it 2 years ago.

monday-things that please me
b3 (my sole reader in botswana) had (has?) one that says "don't touch me, i'm not that kind of car" which i always thought was fabulous. recently i saw one that said "dick cheney eats kittens" which kind of says it all, doesn't it?

tuesday-things that displease me
case in point: saturday, nix and i, as i have said, were in provincetown. we arrived at the breakwater, and i thought it might be fun to walk out on it. suffice it to say it was much farther than i had anticipated.
by the time we reached the ocean, we were exhausted, sunburned and dehydrated (we had not thought to bring water with us).
we decided, rather than walk back the way we came, we would walk over to the lighthouse (different light house than the first picture) and take the ferry.
the ferry was quite some time in coming, because we missed the first one, almost missed the second one, and the beach was treated to a particularly unpleasant view of me as i waded through bum high water to get to the ferry.
we went back to the mainland, found a bar, and basked in our sunburn.

tuesday-things that displease me
the only thing worse than that horrid chirping sound is the obnoxious people yelling into their phones.
honestly--is this really the best technology money can buy?

friday-things that puzzle me
human behavior. no, not the björk song, though that grateful grapefruit is admittedly puzzling. nope, just generally the way people act, especially in crowd. i went to an outdoor concert last night and people are just nuts. imagine a big lawn in the middle of a city square, and picture the following three examples:
- la famille--these people were sitting in front of me (less than three feet from me) and the father of the delightful little ragamuffin moves her enormous stroller directly in front of me. he does this intentionally and without acknowledging that he has just completely blocked my view. we won't get into the mother and her visible thong. i moved.
- les danseurs-imagine the two whitest and worst dancers in the world--the kind that stick out in any crowd of even moderate dancers (hell, even untalented dancers). now imagine them in a group of people who are not dancing. i felt like i was watching a saturday night live skit.
- l'idiot--a little old lady in a wheelchair being wheeled about by a young man who was obviously stoned. my eyesight isn't good enough to have seen the look on her face.
the highlight, however, was the forty-something middle-management guy and the homeless guy with the water bottle (that i'll speculate was not filled with water) shaking their respective groove things together.

thursday-things that i need
it's usually my policy to only post pictures that i took, but as it's 7:17 and already 81 degrees, i feel that shortly i will need one of these:
(the credit for this picture goes to nix)
also, i need all of the girls who feel like taking the train this morning to pause for a moment and drink a big glass of water. yesterday i got to work 45 minutes late becuase of all of the fainters.
